How to use tamping rammer

table of contents

After repairing groundwater lines or installing new communication cables, the next task is to restore the surrounding area to its original usable configuration. Nothing compresses material back to its original shape more efficiently or faster than a ram compactor, especially in small or confined areas.

Sometimes also called earth rammer machine, this lightweight piece of equipment uses repeated dynamic downward force and the static weight of the machine to strengthen cohesive materials, thereby increasing the density of the soil.

To perform a compaction operation, some points must be considered. These points are:

Soil integrity must be checked before starting operations.

Irrigate desired location and leave for 24 hours before compacting

According to the required density, choose the appropriate earth rammer compactor.

Avoid repeated beating and crushing of aggregates, so as not to lose soil resistance.

Finally, always transport rammer compactor machine in an upright position.

Ready to operate tamping rammer machine

Jumping jack compactors have an oil-based lubrication system, so it is important to top off the oil before starting the machine. Top up with gasoline to the specified level, otherwise engine seizure may occur during operation.

  1. Move the fuel cock horizontally to the open position and open the fuel shut-off valve.

  2. Set engine switch to "ON" position. Make sure the choke rod is in the closed position. Put the throttle level to the starting position. This will start the flow of fuel to the engine.

  3. Grasp the recoil starter handle and pull until slight resistance is felt. Then pull hard and quickly. Put the recoil starter handle back into the starter box before releasing.

  4. Hold the recoil starter handle firmly and pull it gently, feeling a slight resistance. Then pull hard. When releasing the handle, do not let go of the handle where it was pulled, but let go after getting close to the starter housing.

  5. If the engine has started, slowly return the choke lever to the fully open position. Be sure to warm up the machine at a low speed for 3 to 5 minutes, and pay attention to whether there is any air leakage or abnormal noise.

  6. If it is difficult to start the engine by repeatedly pulling the starter rope, the spark plug should be removed to check the ignition performance. If the valve plug becomes damp due to excessive oil intake or contamination, the coil should be replaced or fully cleaned. After pulling out the spark plug, pull the recoil starter handle 2-3 times to expel excess gas.

Operate steps

  1. Turn the throttle lever to open the throttle valve. Run the engine at low speed for 5 minutes to warm up the engine.

  2. Quickly move the throttle stick to the "FULL OPEN" position. Do not move the throttle lever slowly as this may damage the clutch or spring. Make sure the throttle lever is moved to the full open position. Operating the compactor at less than full speed could damage the clutch spring or foot. Please be cautious.

  3. After starting the tamping action, adjust the jumping action to suit the specific soil conditions by lightly controlling the throttle lever. When the engine speed is between the settings displayed on the engine, your work can be performed at optimum efficiency. Increasing engine speed unnecessarily will not increase compaction force. Conversely, the resulting resonance can cause a drop in compaction force and damage the machine.

  4. In cold weather, the oil in the machine may become viscous, causing the tamper to move somewhat irregularly. It is recommended to move the throttle lever repeatedly between the open and closed positions while warming up before commencing work.

  5. The soil contact surface of the foot is lined with heat-treated metal plates to increase strength. However, for compacted pebbles, use the fill example so that the foot contacts the soil evenly.

  6. The rammer is designed to advance when jumping. To go faster, push the handle of the machine down slightly, then stand the machine upright so that the flat surface of its tail foot is in contact with the ground. To stop the tamping action, quickly move the throttle lever from wide open to idle.

Stop steps

Normal shutdown

  1. Turn the throttle lever from ON to OFF, and run the engine at low speed for 3-5 minutes. After the temperature drops, turn the switch to the "OFF" position.

  2. Move the fuel cock lever to the closed position to close the fuel shutoff valve.

Emergency shutdown

Quickly move the throttle stick to the IDLE position, and turn the ON/OFF switch of the engine to the OFF position.

Tamper disassembly steps

When you need to disassemble tamping rammer in case of machine failure, you need to understand the following procedures:

  1. First remove the armrest, then remove the fastening bolts of the gasoline engine, and then remove the gasoline engine. Finally, drain the lube.

  2. Remove the bolts connecting the box body and the motion cylinder, then turn the hub and remove the clamping spring on the connecting rod. Take out the key and take out the box.

  3. Take off the fastening ring on the protective cover, remove the sports cylinder, and take off the protective cover.

  4. Take off the elastic buckle on the connecting seat, turn the connecting seat to separate the connecting seat from the transmission rod.

  5. Remove bolts from tamper plate and chassis, then remove tamper plate.

  6. Remove the bolts securing the lower cover to the base and take out the lower case.

  7. Remove the base bolts that fix the inner cylinder, and separate the base from the inner cylinder.

Tips for using the jumping jack compactor

Hopping soil compactors are designed for cohesive soils such as clay. Avoid using tamping machines on gravel and asphalt, as they can create holes instead of compaction, or worse, damage the machine.

Jump jack compactors are designed to compact directly on a specific spot, making them ideal for tight spots and trenches. Combining them into smaller projects can be done faster and increases efficiency.

It is always recommended to inspect every bolt and screw in a machine before using it. Constant vibration can cause screws to loosen, leading to unnecessary disaster.

Always stay focused when using a jumping rammer. They require a lot of strength and concentration to handle, but the results are top notch.

Clean the engine of dirt and dust and treat it regularly to prolong the life of the machine.

Of course, if you don't plan to use the machine for a long time, here's how to do it.

  • Drain the fuel tank completely.

  • Check whether the throttle handle is in the idle position, then start and run the engine until fuel enters.

  • Drain the carburetor completely.

  • Follow the procedures in the engine manual to change the oil and store the engine.

  • When storing the tamper, please put it in a clean, dry place where it will not be knocked over, and cover it with a cloth.

In general, proper use of a jumping jack compactor can enhance the compaction process by making it simple and efficient. This easy-to-use machine delivers great results with less cost, labor and time. And BISON provides a series of wholesale rammers, welcome to subscribe and consult.
