In order to ensure the continuous use and high efficiency of your inverter generator, it is very important to choose a reliable inverter generator manufacturer first. At the same time, regular maintenance is also very important in order to have a longer life of the inverter generator.

Consider the following inverter generator maintenance tips you can perform

Necessary measures before maintenance

Portable inverter generator not only have potential safety hazards during operation. In fact, performing maintenance exposes the user to many of the same risks as when the power equipment is running. Make sure the unit has time to cool down before starting scheduled maintenance. Users should only work in well-ventilated or outdoor environments, using a solid and level surface to prevent fuel spills or equipment balance problems. Make sure the engine is off and the spark plug or other wires are disconnected, as this will prevent accidental ignition which could result in very serious injury.

Change inverter generator oil.jpg

Change oil

One of the most important ways to maintain an power inverter generator is to change the oil regularly. How often you need to change your oil depends on several variables, including:

  • The inverter electric generator brand you own

  • How often you use the inverter generator

  • Under what conditions does the generator run

Based on the above factors, BISON recommends an oil change every 50 to 200 hours of operation. For example, newer, state-of-the-art models may require fewer oil changes because they burn cleaner than older models. However, if your generator operates in an environment with a lot of dust or contaminants that can mix with your oil, you may need to change your oil more frequently. Also, if your inverter generator is brand new, BISON manufacturer recommends changing the oil after eight hours before use. By changing the oil immediately, you can ensure that your generator is free of contaminants that entered the system during manufacturing or shipping. Check and change the oil by removing the oil/service/air filter access panel and unscrewing the oil filler cap, then you can check the dipstick to see the oil level. The gasoline inverter generator can be tilted forward slightly to allow the oil to pour into a suitable container. After the engine oil is completely drained, inject the required amount of engine oil through the filling port, cover the oil filler cap and tighten it by hand.

clean or replace inverter generator air filter.jpg

Check or replace air filter

The air filter should also be checked before each use of the inverter generator. Appliance owners should clean the filter after 50 hours of use or every 3 months, whichever comes first. If you live in a dusty area, increasing the frequency of inspections will ensure that your inverter generator is always available when you need it most. Cleaning can be done with warm water and a mild detergent such as dish soap or other typical soaps. Wash and dry thoroughly, soak the foam filter in clean oil and squeeze out all excess oil, if there is too much oil on the foam filter, the inverter generator will "smoke". When the air filter shows signs of damage and is no longer effective, it should be replaced with a new one.

Maintain or replace spark plug

The spark plug is a key part of the inverter generator, and its maintenance and cleaning is the key to ensuring work efficiency and safe operation. Since this section is located near the muffler of the inverter generator, it should be allowed to cool after recent use before performing spark plug maintenance. BISON recommends servicing and cleaning the spark plugs every 20 hours of use or monthly (whichever comes first), using a wire brush to remove any carbon deposits from the surface of the spark plugs, and inspecting the components for damage. Spark plugs need to be completely replaced once a year, or after 200 hours. As with the air filter, spark plugs that show obvious signs of damage should be removed and replaced with brand new spark plugs suitable for use with inverter generators, as this will ensure continued operation at peak efficiency levels. For complete replacement, spark plugs with a gap of 0.7 to 0.8 (0.028 to 0.032”) can be used. Generator importers are welcome to consult BISON inverter generator manufacturers.

Drain fuel

Many users may not realize that the fuel in the inverter generator tank should be emptied after every use. Cleaning out your fuel tank ensures you are using clean, efficient fuel and protects equipment from erosion and damage. First make sure the machine is not running, then open the gas cap and drain excess gasoline from the tank. Use a funnel if necessary to make sure no liquid spills into your driveway or garage floor during this process. Fill the empty tank with new gasoline until it is approximately 80% full.
