When it comes time to tackle your outdoor projects, high pressure washer can get the job done. Available in electric or petrol models, BISON pressure washers are an effective way to clean decks, walkways, and more. Whether you're getting ready to paint siding or washing your car for the weekend, this guide can help you start your pressure washer safely and effectively.

Start high pressure washer specific steps

Preparing to start pressure washer

  • Connect a garden hose.

  • Replace and install nozzles.

  • Push the pressure washer to the exact location where you want to use it. When you move it, don't let it run unnecessarily. Running it for a long time without spraying water may damage it.

  • Before starting your gas pressure washer, make sure you have the proper fuel and oil. Determine oil level by utilizing the dipstick located on the underside of the fuel tank cap, situated near the bottom of the engine. If the oil level is low, add some fresh engine oil (the type specified in the owner's manual).

Start petrol pressure washer

  1. Ensure that the fuel valve is set to the open position.

  2. Move the choke to the left (open position).

  3. Move the throttle to the left (full throttle position).

  4. Switch the engine to the "ON" position.

  5. While the gun assembly is still on the bracket, pull on the engine wires.

  6. Then, close the choke. Get prepared to put your pressure washer to work.

Most gas-powered pressure washers are pull-start, but some are electric-start. If it has electric start, turn the key or push a button to start.recoil-start-petrol-pressure-washer.jpg

Keep spraying at a 45-degree angle to the surface.Holding the sprayer "front up" or holding it straight will draw dirt into the surface instead of flushing it away. Work in a small area at a time. This is best done with long overlapping strokes from top to bottom and left to right. When done, turn the engine to the off position. After turning off the device, pull the trigger gun to release the pressure.

Start electric pressure washer

  1. Electric pressure washers operate using electricity. To run them on properly, need to be connected to an electrical outlet. The power cord of your pressure washer may be detachable, and if this is the case, you must first connect the cord to electric pressure washer. Then locate the GFCI outlet and plug it into high pressure washer. Turn on electrical outlet and press the power button to start electric pressure washer.

Before plugging your pressure washer into an electrical outlet, always check the power cord and make sure the outlet the machine is plugged into is grounded.

  2. The power washer will start working when you pull the trigger and pause when you release the trigger.

After using the pressure washer, turn it off and unplug it from the outlet. After turning off the pressure washer, also pull the trigger and relieve any remaining pressure in the pressure washer pump, disconnect the high-pressure hoses from the unit and gun, and disconnect the garden hose.

Electric pressure washer start notes

Extension cords: It's best to avoid using extension cords with electric pressure washers, as some manufacturers advise against it, not to mention it can damage the pressure washer's pump and motor.

Power cord: Before running the pressure washer, make sure the power cord is not immersed in water to avoid accidental electric shock.

Waterproof: While modern electric pressure washers are somewhat waterproof, it is best to keep the pressure washer above ground if the ground is wet or has puddles.

No splash: Avoid accidentally splashing water on the pressure washer as this may damage the motor.

Dry use: Keep the electrical outlet dry and maintain a considerable distance between it and the cleaning area, to prevent water damage and ensure safety.

Run only when in use: Do not leave the pressure washer running when not in use as this may cause pressure to build up within the pump and damage the pump. A good way to avoid this mistake is to squeeze the trigger every few seconds to relieve pressure from the pressure washer pump. Or turn off the pressure washer during breaks during pressure cleaning.

Pressure washing tips

Keep these tips and tricks in mind when using high pressure washer:

  • Always make sure your pressure washer is on a flat surface.

  • For those with decks, it is recommended that you pressure wash at least once or twice a year. High pressure from an air washer and a nozzle at a 45 degree angle should do the job.

  • A wider spray equals a faster clean, while a tighter spray equals a deeper clean.

  • Wash the car with an electric pressure washer. Use high pressure washer surface cleaner or detergent.

  • For garage floors and other concrete surfaces, a medium-high pressure gas or electric pressure washer with a nozzle at a 45-degree angle can be used.

  • When pressure washing siding, always keep the nozzle about 4 feet away from the siding to avoid damaging the paint or finish.

  • Always avoid spraying windows with high pressure washer, and make sure the spray is kept away from exterior lighting and fixtures.

  • Never high-pressure wash on ladders. Stress can throw you off balance.

  • Always wear goggles, closed shoes or boots, and other safety gear.

  • Do not use a gas washing machine in an enclosed space due to the fumes.

  • Keep your hands away from the water stream and do not point the spray at people or pets. Pressurized water can cause severe cuts and other injuries.

  • It is not recommended to use high pressure washer in an enclosed area. Make sure the area is well ventilated if necessary.
